Mission Orders

The remnants of a Troll army that clashed with Imperial forces has taken refuge within Lebros Cavern. Hunt down the fugitives and prevent them from regrouping.

Entry

  1. Speak with Rytaal in the Commissions Agency to receive an Imperial Army I.D. Tag.
  2. Speak with Famad at L-10 and select Troll Fugitives.
  3. The Imperial Army I.D. Tag is exchanged for Lebros Assault orders, and the temporary Map of Lebros Cavern is issued.
  4. Travel to the Halvung Staging Point at K-6.
  5. One party member must obtain an Assault Armband from Waudeen at K-6.
  6. Examine the Runic Seal to enter the Assault.
  7. Each participant receives Zhayolm Fireflies upon entering.


Walkthrough

  1. Enter Lebros Cavern and begin searching for the Broken Troll Soldiers.
  2. Defeat all 15 Broken Troll Soldiers spread throughout the assault area.
    • All 15 Trolls are present when the assault begins under the current LandSandBoat implementation.
    • The Trolls appear already wounded when combat begins, with varying amounts of remaining HP.
    • They are aggressive and can link with nearby Broken Troll Soldiers.
  3. After the 15th Broken Troll Soldier is defeated, the mission objective is completed.
  4. The Ancient Lockbox and Rune of Release become available around H-9.
  5. Open the Ancient Lockbox and distribute any treasure before leaving.
  6. Examine the Rune of Release to complete the assault and receive Assault Points.

Mission Mechanics

Current LandSandBoat spawns a fixed group of 15 Broken Troll Soldiers when the instance is created. Each defeated Troll contributes one point of mission progress, and the objective is completed at 15 points.

Starting HP On engagement, the current script reduces a Troll to one of five HP values: 25%, 37.5%, 50%, 62.5%, or 75%.
Aggression Broken Troll Soldiers are aggressive.
Linking Broken Troll Soldiers can link with nearby Trolls.
Job abilities The Broken Troll Soldier script uses LandSandBoat's standard job-special behavior.
Mission progress Each defeated Broken Troll Soldier adds 1 point of progress.
Completion The objective is completed at 15 points of progress.
  • LandSandBoat currently applies the wounded HP value when a Troll is engaged. The source contains a TODO indicating that the intended behavior is for the Trolls to spawn at 25%-75% HP and remain at that value.
  • Older guides occasionally report an additional Troll appearing after the original group is defeated. The current LandSandBoat implementation does not spawn an additional objective Troll after the original 15.

Strategy

  • Wide Scan is particularly useful because the only objective is finding and defeating all 15 Broken Troll Soldiers.
  • Sweep the map systematically rather than repeatedly crossing the same branches. Missing a single Troll prevents the objective from completing.
  • Several Trolls are positioned close together and can link, so smaller groups should avoid engaging large clusters simultaneously.
  • The Trolls enter combat with substantially reduced HP, making individual fights much shorter than fighting normal full-health Trolls of the same level.
  • Be prepared for different jobs throughout the assault, including WAR, MNK, PLD, and RDM.
  • The final objective completes immediately when the 15th Troll is defeated. Return toward H-9 for the Ancient Lockbox and Rune of Release.
  • Open the Ancient Lockbox before using the Rune of Release.

Additional point modifiers:

  • Each party member beyond the third reduces the base reward by 10%.
  • The holder of the Assault Armband receives a 10% mission-leader bonus.
  • A player's first successful completion receives a 50% first-clear bonus.
  • Assault Point bonuses are multiplicative.
  • A failed Assault may award 100 consolation points.

Ancient Lockbox

After all 15 Broken Troll Soldiers have been defeated, the Ancient Lockbox becomes available near the Rune of Release.
